SA HOTEL - TWO OCEANS AQUARIUM

The southern tip of the African continent is the meeting place of two mighty and bountiful oceans, the Indian and the Atlantic. The Two Oceans Oceanarium is so named, as these two oceans meet at Cape Town. The Atlantic Ocean has icy cold currents, while the Indian Ocean brings warm tropical waters. The Two Oceans Oceanarium is fascinating and highly informative and is arguably the best of its kind in Africa. It is a good idea to visit the oceanarium if the south-easter is blowing, or if Cape Town is having a cloudy day.

The Two Oceans Oceanarium is one the top attractions in Cape Town. The aquarium offers visitors the chance to catch a glimpse into the oceans and gain some insight into how magnificent they really are. The Two Oceans Aquarium is great for children and adults alike and offers a host of activities which entertain and educate. This is a visit not to be missed!

The Two Oceans Aquarium is found at the oceanarium and is ideally positioned to showcase the incredible diversity of marine life found in these two oceans. The Two Oceans Oceanarium is one of the top tourist attractions in Cape Town, with over 3000 living sea animals. These include sharks, fish, seals, turtles and penguins, all of which are housed in a spectacular underwater nature reserve. Cape Town's Aquarium offers adventure-diving with sharks, spectacular function and conference venues and fun-filled activities for children. The Aquarium is also involved in fascinating ocean projects, including shark conservation, sunfish research and exciting environmental education programmes.

The Two Oceans Oceanarium has much to offer as an educational and tourist venue. Specializing in the marine fauna and flora off the South African coastline, the aquarium boasts a large cold water kelp exhibit, complete with a swell generator. It also has a predator exhibit with five ragged tooth sharks, a variety of rays, two turtles and various pelagic fish. Feeding time in the predator exhibit is a popular attraction for young and old, as divers hand-feed the sharks and other animals. The predator exhibit also offers a unique chance for sport-divers to spend time with the ragged tooth sharks, under the watchful eye of the aquarium's divers. Children can have a close-up view of starfish and comical seals by diving to watch them. A beach with penguins simulates the ebb and flow of the tide at the Cape.

The aquarium in the Two Oceans Oceanarium has been designed to create maximum effect and is particularly impressive when sunlight hits the surface of the water in the two main exhibits, creating shafts of blue light. The ever-swaying kelp forest looks beautiful as fish swim slowly by, making the exhibit look just like the open ocean. This creates the perfect back-drop for television interviews. Special permission may be granted to film in these exhibits.

The Two Oceans Oceanarium has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. It features over thirty pools with 300 species of fish from the Indian and Atlantic Oceans and from the area around the Cape of Good Hope. The two-million liter/520,000 gallon open ocean tank is one of the main attractions.
