SA HOTEL - THE STRAND - CAPE TOWN

The Strand is a swimmer's seaside paradise situated on the eastern edge of False Bay and lies between Macassar and Gordon's Bay. It is about 50 km southeast of Cape Town, which is in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. The Strand is now regarded as part of the greater city of Cape Town and provides great views of the Cape Peninsula and has stunning beaches.

Malay slaves settled in the Strand as early as the 1800's, after escaping from Cape Town. The Malay people relied on fishing for survival and a large number of them were Muslim. Tourists will be able to see their mosque, which still stands today. In 1970, during the apartheid era, the neighbourhood was destroyed and the people were forcefully resettled in order make space for a white seaside resort. Huge apartment buildings were later built in this area.

Bloubergstrand is also renowned for its watersports and is an epicentre for the booming sport of kite-surfing, which is enjoyable for both spectators and participants alike. Bloubergstrand can be compared to the more cosmopolitan areas south of the city. The exception is that it offers great beaches, great space, and great value.
