SA HOTEL - TWO OCEANS MARATHON - CAPE TOWN

Feel the cool mountain breeze and experience the electric atmosphere and excitement in one of the most beautiful races held annually in the coastal city of Cape Town. Some 20 000 people will be running and walking Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon hosted by Nike. This annual event follows through 56 km / 34.8 miles of open road and challenging mountain climbs, witnessing the meeting of the Cold Benguela Current of the Atlantic Ocean and warm Aghulhas Current of the Indian ocean.

The Old Mutual Two Oceans Ultra Marathon is one of South Africa's Premier events happening annually in Cape Town with spectacular scenery, with the challenging climb up Chapman's Peak which has been excluded from the event previously due to rock falls, but thanks to extensive working on the area, reopened in 2004.

Both the Ultra marathon and half Marathon will be starting in Main Road Newlands outside SA Breweries, the runners head for the climb at Chapman's Peak peak starting just after the 26 km mark, then a relatively flatter Hout Bay and through the toughest part of the experience, "Suikerbossie Pass". The runners will be passing Constantia Nek. The finish is at the UCT Sports field, upper campus. During the race there is no seconding allowed to ensure the runner's safety.

With two big events happening, including South Africa's biggest half Marathon in Cape Town, there will be 2 separate starting pens allowing runners to line up at their leisure without waiting for the previous race to be cleared. The 21km route will also be turning off sooner into Aliwal road (3.1km) to ensure a clear road for the 56km Ultra Marathon runners.

News Flash : Elana Meyer will be running in the 2007 Ultra Event running under the colours of Mr Price. Elana Meyer has been a professional long distance athlete for 15 years, and currently under the training of Bruce Fordyce. She is currently the world Record holder for the 15km and 21 km race, holding 6 world records in distances ranging from 5km to 21km and an Olympic silver medal. Running internationally mostly she retired from the international running scene in 2005 and she is now going to do the Two Oceans Marathon for the first time.
